SPARK Statewide Psychiatry Access, Resources and Knowledge official logo.

Mission & Vision

We aim to provide real-time, evidence-based, consultation to medical providers caring for individuals with mental health needs. By offering consultation, education, and maintenance of our statewide mental health referral and resource network, we are working to minimize barriers in accessing mental health care for all Oklahomans.

SPARK provides both adult and child mental health which is built on the foundations of Oklahoma Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health Access Program (OKCAPMAP)—a pediatric mental health care access program (i.e., PMHCA). SPARK/OKCAPMAP was started in 2021 through a collaboration with OSU-CHS, Psychiatry and Behavioral Science and the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Use through HRSA PMHCA grant funding. At this time, most states and several tribal territories have created or are creating a PMHCA to address the child psychiatry workforce shortage across the US and attenuate the gap in access to pediatric mental health care

Learn More

Registered providers can engage with child and adolescent psychiatrists (CAP), adult psychiatrists, addiction specialists, and licensed mental health professionals (LMHP) to strengthen the care of their patients with mental health needs through telephone consultations with medical providers. SPARK can assist with medication management, diagnostic in-office interventions, and family engagement. SPARK does not establish provider-patient relationships with the patients of registered medical providers, but rather provides consultation services solely and directly to the medical provider (provider-to-provider).

Registered medical providers can access enhanced education specific to their patient population and training needs. Registered medical providers can access asynchronous online modules, hybrid lunch and learns with case dissections, online learning library including archived primary care and emergency department specific ECHO sessions, monthly newsletters, and in person specialty trainings. Most of these learning opportunities also provide Category 1-A CME.

Registered medical providers can receive referral assistance to help their patient find a “best fit” therapeutic alliance and create a supportive mental health network. Comprehensive local and statewide services and resources will be included, as well as details for determining best options for the patient and the family. Medical providers will also be supported by follow up on referrals, family advocacy, and continuum of care. For businesses or individuals providing mental health and related supports and services in or near Oklahoma, please join our referral database.
